Arrow Crusaders on the March

Katie Rhodes, director of Forever Found in Simi Valley, which began in 2010 to help sex trafficking survivors, said their group recently began receiving phone calls from victims of sex trafficking in Ventura County. Forever Found is responding to a growing number of sex trafficking victims being identified in the area, Rhodes said.

Rhodes is not aware of any local sex trafficking women survivors who are willing to talk about their experiences.

Rhodes said "local sex trafficking victims can easily be found online on the website www.backpage.com "

“There have been cases of women advertised online and later identified as sex trafficking victims who have passed through our county,” Rhodes said. “For people who don’t believe the sex industry exists in Ventura County, it’s all online,” said Rhodes.

Ventura County law enforcement is battling a burgeoning crime whose victims are hidden and forgotten: sex trafficking.

“We know it exists; we’ve found sex trafficking victims in the county,” said Cpl. David Ruggiero, a detective with the Ventura Police Department.

"Nearly every city in Ventura County has brothels operating in broad daylight disguised as massage parlors," Ruggiero said.

Ruggiero is part of the recently formed Ventura County Coalition Against Human and Sex Trafficking, which has been meeting monthly since January to develop a countywide response to sex trafficking.

What we’ve seen in Ventura County is mostly commercial sex exploitation,” Ruggiero said. “I think the reason for that is because prostitution is illegal, so it’s on our radar to investigate," said Ruggiero.

“It’s basically slavery,” Ruggiero said. “You’re putting women to work through commercial sexual exploitation.”

Ruggiero believes that the 2005 formation of a human trafficking task force in Los Angeles pushed the problem into Ventura County. Soon after the task force began cracking down on traffickers, there was a huge jump in the number of massage parlors in Ventura County, Ruggiero said.

“With that increase came a lot of commercial sex and a high likelihood of sex trafficking going on here,” he said. “As we were looking into it, it was very obvious that sexual exploitation was going on in many of these massage places. We are able to work with the LAPD on some cases, but it’s an ongoing problem.”

In a city like Thousand Oaks, Detective James Langford of the Oxnard Police Department said, “it’s more of a domestic type of trafficking where pimps are taking females that fall victim to the pressures of a pimp and then pass through Thousand Oaks as part of their circuit that they go on.”

“Because Thousand Oaks is part of the 101 Freeway, it’s an easy stop along the 101 to find a hotel and pimp them out of that hotel for a week, and then move on to the next city that’s along the freeway,” said Langford.

Detective Guy Fadler of the Thousand Oaks Police Department said that the constant travel “is designed so that women don’t feel they can run off." Fadler said sex trafficking is the most prevalent type of trafficking in Ventura County and these female victims continue to be involved in commercial sexual exploitation.

A female victim was discovered in Thousand Oaks in December, according to Fadler.

“A patrol officer was doing good police work and happened to come into contact with a woman as she were being delivered to a john for sex in Thousand Oaks,” Fadler said.

Lol. Since Ventura County is OWNED by Big Agro, you will never see an article there about a crackdown on human trafficking involving farm workers.

Funny how they always lump pimped girls together with AMP workers. I guess it follows the reasoning that while they may be apples and oranges, they're all still fruit! Makes for good press anyway.

Exactly, sam. The fucking hypocrisy is appalling. "Trafficking" is a wonderful way for these assholes to make a name for themselves, especially in an area like Ventura County where not much real crime happens. I guess it beats hanging out in donut shops.

"Rhodes is not aware of any local sex trafficking women survivors who are willing to talk about their experiences."
Not one? Could it be that they are not entirely non-complicit in the enterprise?

“For people who don’t believe the sex industry exists in Ventura County, it’s all online,” said Rhodes.
For people who don't believe in unicorns, they are online too. Surely you're not going to deny the credibility--it's online!

“It’s basically slavery,” Ruggiero said. “You’re putting women to work through commercial sexual exploitation.”
or, "It's basically a job, letting women exploit their natural sexuality for a much higher than average rate of pay."

As long as there are morals laws in the books, and there always are (remember when they put Socrates in jail?), governments will use those laws to take away the rights, or even the lives, of people. Galileo spent much of his life in prison, but now pretty much everybody north of the Mason-Dixon line believes the earth revolves around the sun. Perhaps some day women will be able to exploit their own bodies as they wish.

Fighting sexual immorality used to be the call to arms for the anti-prostitution crowd. But these days fewer people are answering that call. Almost everyone has had sex outside of marriage. Inter-racial relationships are no longer illegal and homosexuality is celebrated in politics and the media. Jailing sinners is a low priority for most people now. What to do?

Well, everyone is against slavery, right? Exploiting women? Also bad. Time for the Lefties to join with the Tea Party and end this evil scourge! Like with any product, you have to know your audience and change your sales pitch accordingly. If people are no longer interested in fighting immorality, let's get them to think they're fighting something they hate instead. Let's make it a fight for freedom! Liberate these sex-slaves and punish their oppressors! Who wouldn't want to join that fight?

If that douche-bag cop went on TV and said we must fight the sin of fornication, he would be laughed off the stage. But there was a time when it would have worked. The only thing that has changed is the marketing strategy. The anti-prostitution industry needs to reach a larger audience, and to further justify its activities. So they have adjusted their message. Seems to be working.

The conservatives don't like this form of business because it is immoral and bad for family values and the rest of society. But they do not play up the "sex trafficking victim" angle.
The liberals don't care about morality, but see every woman as a victim of male dominance, with the sex industry being the worst example of this. These feminist do-gooders are going to rescue the poor women of the massage industry, because massage girls are just stupid asians and mexicans who don't understand that they are victims. On the surface it seems like they made a voluntary decision to work in this industry, so that they could drive a BMW and send their child to college, but in reality they are slaves and victims of these predatory pigs called "men".
I wish we could send these white bitches to live in poverty in Mexico or China and then see what they are willing to do to better their lives.

To Discourage Prostitution, France Passes Bill That Penalizes Clients

France on Wednesday approved an anti-prostitution and sex trafficking bill that would punish the customers of prostitutes, but not the prostitutes themselves.

PARIS — After a debate lasting nearly two and a half years, France’s Parliament on Wednesday approved a bill to discourage prostitution by penalizing those who pay for sex, following the example of Sweden and Norway.

The National Assembly, France’s lower house of Parliament, voted 64 to 12 for the bill, with the vast majority of the 577 Assembly members not voting. Parliament can approve legislation without a quorum.

The French Socialist government, which had backed the bill, hailed the new law as a victory.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls posted a message on Twitter saying the vote was “a major advance” for the rights of women.

The minister for women’s rights, Ms. Laurence Michelle Rossignol, told the National Assembly before the vote that prostitution was “violence done to women” and that the new measure would send a message to those who work as prostitutes that “the state, the Parliament and society finally recognizes fully the violence of the system of prostitution.”

France’s prostitutes are victims of human trafficking, Ms. Laurence Michelle Rossignol said.

Under the new law, first time offenders will pay a fine of 1,500 euros, or about $1,700, if they “solicit, accept or obtain relations of a sexual nature” from a prostitute in exchange for money. The fine can rise to 3,750 euros (about $4,300) for repeat offenders.

Convicted offenders may also have to attend classes to learn about the vulnerability of women in the sex trade. There is also the option for a settlement in which the offender could be ordered to take classes in lieu of the fine.

The law also repeals an existing measure that penalizes solicitation by prostitutes, which forces prostitutes to work in more desolate neighborhoods or outside of city centers where they were less likely to be arrested by the police and where they were less safe. Prostitutes who wish to leave the sex business will be eligible for funding to pay for training in other fields.

Prostitutes demonstrated against the law outside the National Assembly on Wednesday, saying that it would further stigmatize them, hurt their business and push it more underground.

France is in step with a European-wide trend away from laws that penalize women who offer sex for money. A few countries, now including France, penalize customers. Sweden was a pioneer, enacting such a law in 1999. In France, prostitution is not illegal but buying sex is.

Some countries, like the Czech Republic, allow prostitution but prohibit brothels. Others, like Switzerland, allow licensed brothels but prohibit solicitation. The Netherlands and Germany take a different approach, regulating prostitution as a business and requiring health checks and other measures to protect both the prostitutes and their customers.

The real slavery/exploitation is what happens to women here who 1. may not have a visa that allows them to work (student) and/or who have no English skills. Their "legit" job choices are body/foot massage, nail salon, or kitchen worker. Whatever ethnicity, their own people exploit them, working them in 12 hour shifts with no time off for meals and no guarantee of pay. They can get as little as $4 per hour in these jobs (some of these jobs are 100% tip-dependent).

So, yeah, humans traffic themselves just to be in this country. Sometimes they have to pay a fortune to get here... and then "their own people" are the ones exploiting them. Doesn't quite make the same juicy story as the "pimp" narrative.

I guess the question is whether the work environments (especially nail salons where toxic chemicals are used) are better or worse than the parlors, given the compensation difference. But that's only a question for the open-minded.
