I, for one, would be very glad to be out from under the threat of law enforcement. And I hate the thought that some of these ladies feel they cannot invoke the police to resolve a dispute, for fear of being arrested themselves.

There were enough tokers, gays and libs to get the gay marriage and marijuana laws changed (and that didn't happen over-night), but mongers have no political clout, because we're too ashamed of ourselves to stand up. Same for the girls (the ones who can vote, that is). I don't see legalizing our hobby happening any time soon.
