The 38-year-old tech exec allegedly attempted to contact what he believed to be was a 15-year-old girl for sex. The fictitious 15-year-old was actually an undercover police officer with the Tukwila Police Department, a city just south of Seattle. The news was first reported by KING 5, which said that Katz was arrested by Tukwila Police on Wednesday. Katz is to be arraigned on January 5th, and bail was set at $125,000. An Israeli citizen who resides in California, Katz is forbidden to have contact with any minors, except in the presence of a responsible adult, according to charging documents. Katz allegedly responded to an online advertisement on Backpage that offered sex in exchange for money, an ad which was posted by undercover police officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. Katz allegedly arranged a meeting at the Embassy Suites in Tukwila, offering to pay $350 to have sex without a condom. When Katz arrived at the hotel with $600 in cash, he was arrested by police. Upon his arrest, Katz told the officer that he was there to rescue the girl, and should have first called police, according to charging documents. We’ve reached out to Facebook representatives for comment, and we’ll update this post if we learn more. Facebook purchased Oculus — one of the leaders in virtual reality technology — for about $2 billion in cash and stock in 2014. Oculus operates a large engineering office in Seattle. Katz was profiled in a Times of Israel story in 2014 for the role he played in helping to develop the Oculus Rift headset. Seattle police arrested Oculus’ Head of Computer Vision Dov Katz on December 23rd in a sting operation in which a police officer posed as a 15-year-old girl. Katz allegedly arrived at an Embassy Suites in Tukwila, Washington with $600 after agreeing in texts messages to pay $350 for sex without a condom. Katz told police he was there to rescue the girl. Local television affiliate King 5 reported on the arrest. Katz is to be arraigned on January 5th and bail is set at $125,000. Katz has extensive experience in computer vision and has worked at Oculus VR since 2013. Facebook bought the company in 2014. The cops probably figured, "instead of a chickenshit misdemeanor, let's try and get a major felony bust. While it will totally screw up the perp's life, it will make us look good and score us some headlines and major brownie points. He's already hooked. Let's just up the ante, hope he goes for it, and reel him in!" I'm not convinced he was more than a regular monger, temporarily tempted to dip below the legal age of consent, which he wouldn't have done prior to getting hooked in by the manipulative conversation. Was he wrong? Sure he was. Should have cut it off the moment she said she was really 15, not 19. But seriously, you know there are some mongers out there who are totally into adults who would fall for this scheme. That kind of temptation is not worth the risk, but thinking with your dick can make a fool out of anyone.

Depending on what he is convicted of, He is subject to deportation if he is not a US citizen.

It would be like telling someone the girl was 17 in California. Still wrong, but might not seem like much of a difference to someone who has already been hooked by the conversation and pics up to that point, which is why they chose 15 instead of 8 or 12. They weren't after someone who was already looking for jail bait, otherwise they would have stated that illegal age from the get-go. No, they knew what they were doing, and they clearly manipulated this guy. He was wrong, no two ways about it. I'm not excusing him. He should have bailed when they said 15. But the cops were obviously trying to set someone up with a bait and switch tactic, not catch a bona fide predator.
