I am not talking down on thailand or trying to talk you out of going. You should go. Thailand is a blast. I go myself. What I am telling you is the truth about thailand. Sometimes the truth is never popular and people don't want to hear it. The girls in China are much cleaner looking. Much cleaner. You may think you won't fall for the taxi scam. LOL. I go to Thailand a few times a year. If you believe wolf's ridiculous posts here, just stay home. He even makes the airport taxi sound dangerous. He must be one of those guys who saw The Hangover 2 and thought it was an accurate depiction.
Thailand isn't one of those countries where evil lurks behind every corner. It's safe and fun. You can walk to the taxi kiosk near the airport exit after you get through immigration (same level as your arrival). Some cheap bastards will go upstairs to the departure level and grab a cab as it is dropping someone off and save 100 baht or so. But since it's your first trip, just take the certain route. The ladies at the kiosk speak enough English to know which hotel you're at so they can tell the driver. If you arrive at a normal hour, you can also take the airport rail link which is a cheap, clean, air-conditioned way to get you to wherever you're going near Sukhumvit. There is one transfer involved. In any case, get to know the skytrain because it's perfect for getting around up and down Sukhumvit. It's easy. If you have Tmobile, the international roaming is slow, but free, so that will help if you're lost, but after a couple of days around Sukhumvit, you'll be oriented. You can do the whole sim card thing too, but it's not really necessary with all the WiFi. WiFi is everywhere too, so you can sit at some bar with your smart phone for a bit too if you need to get online. But make sure your hotel has good WiFi if you need to do business or make calls home. Thailand is a monger paradise, one of the best particularly if you like Asian girls. If I was going to go to Thailand just for CBJs ... haha. That is the craziest advice ever. Fuck no! Do not listen to wolf. Go have fun. And go try all the various types of adult fun. BJ bars, soapies, regular massage places, Soi Cowboy, Nana, Artist District "J" bars, Eden, Tulip, Beergarden, Mango, late night street girls, etc. Ladyboys ... much ado about nothing. Ladyboys are typically easy to pick out. Deeper voices, taller, very aggressive on the streets, perfect makeup, big fake tits, etc., and they usually look like, well, ladyboys. They aren't monsters who will kidnap you and rape you. Just say "no thank you" and keep walking. Hell, if you can't tell the difference and the surgery is that good, you have to ask yourself if it matters. The majority of the girls working around Sukhumvit or Ratchdapisek (or Pattaya if you go there), etc., are sweet, country girls from the Northeast Isaan area. Some will be newbies. Some will be hardened pros. Each has pros and cons. If you are going to be there for a while, go see some islands. There's an island for everyone, whatever your tastes. If you meet a girl you really like, she'll happily be your travel guide to the islands which will be helpful for navigating the bus/van/ferry. BTW, the water festival wolf mentioned, Songkran, is actually a great time to go. Lots of fun, and you'll be surrounded by sexually-charged, nubile girls in wet T-shirts.

I never said Thailand was dangerous.Thailand is actually very safe. If you want to take the non licensed taxi Jitney and be over charged. Maybe a ride to clothing store so he can make a commission. Be my guest. These cars that pick u up almost always are very low on gas. If you have any issue. You want to pay be able to hop out of the car and take another taxi. Regarding lady boys. Yes, there are the obvious ladyboys. But, there is a saying in thailand that the most beautiful woman in thailand are men. I have see many ladyboys that I could not tell they were men. No I did not go with them. Songkran, I have never seen woman not wearing bras outside in wet teeshirts. To me that is a wet teeshirt. Not a girl being just wet with cloths on. Maybe in clubs they have wet tee shirt shows. But, manytimes the girls are naked and or in bathing suits. So it does not matter. What you will see during Songron in Pattaya is thousands of people on the street with water guns and buckets of water. Throwing water on anyone that walks by from 11am usually is the start to 7pm-8pm at night. Now I can understand getting water squirted on you for an hour. Even maybe a few hours. But, If you like being soaken wet literally like you just got out of a swimming pool all day long. You will love it. I hated it. My worst parts would be in Pattaya during Songron when I wanted to go to the mall to walk around and with the no window buses having water buckets poured and thrown over me about 15 times before I made it to the mall. If you are on a motor bike. People run at you on the street and throw it in your face. Or going into a restaurant soaked was special. Thailand is sexually charged anyway. You don't have to go to Songkran to look for a sexually charged time. But, I will say the are many girls in thailand at that time. After 8pm I would go on the hunt and had a blast till 3-4am.

The way I look at my trip to Thailand is the same way I look at going to the parlors here in the US, have a good time stay safe and get laid as much as possible. I've traveled enough to be comfortable in any situation and not walk around with my eyes wide open and my head on a swivel looking like the country bumpkin on his first trip. I understand where wolfmans advice comes from regardless of my travels I'm sure it is going to be sensory overload walking down soi cowboy or nana for the first time hell I'm expecting it and that's part of the fun, I'm expecting to be grabbed walking past gogo bars, by the freelancers and by the ladyboys but that's all part of the craziness so like wolfman and Dupree both said be polite say no thanks and keep moving.

Just spent 5 days in Thailand last month.
here are a few tidbits from me for whatever its wort: 1) in Bangkok - Uber works and is great to and from the airport - the Skytrain is also a great way to move around 2) Avoid Nuru in BKK. BJ bars are also overrated 3) picking up girls in Soy Cowboy bars is easy fun and safe 4) Escort agencies are reasonable and have good girls 5) Paying 4-5000 baht for an all nighter is worth it 6) 5-star Hotels are reasonably priced and girl-friendly 7) Dont monger in Chiang Mai 8) Take a day trip to Auythia 9) Careful with sharing you number. One gal was spamming me and I had to block her 10) legit massages are worth it and oil massages are a nice break Have an amazing time!!!
