U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota said today that the enforcement action of Backpage was the result of the impending passage of Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA), the Senate-approved version of FOSTA.

"Today, Backpage was shutdown. It’s a huge step. Now no child will be sold for sex through this website—not in North Dakota, not in the U.S., or around the world. I'm proud of the two year long Senate investigation I was part of that helped lead to this point."

How? BP is it's own main issue but sites are falling left & right and it's not because of bumbling fools running the sites but because the law is now on the side of brutal censorship. Here is what the law now equates to:

- Every web site is responsible for its content
- Non-moderation of content is now meaningless, there is no protection
- If the content is INTERPRETED to facilitate criminality then the site itself will face criminal charges

This reaches into every site hosted within the US or operated from within the US. What happens when adults needing to find consensual services start doing so through Twitter, Instagram or SnapChat? Those services can't police millions of people or posts, and eventually will have no way to even moderate or comply with the law. The resources required to curb free speech are daunting and eventually they will cave.

The future of the Internet will be a homogenized wasteland of one-way corporate communication. That's what all people in power and at the top of the monetary food chain want.

None of this is about sex for money. It is all about the desire to control communication.

Unless recent laws are repealed as unconstitutional, it will just get worse.

That site is back but I wouldn't presume for long based on all that is happening now.

What's needed for a site to be able to survive in these current conditions is:

- No money moving through/from the US (not traceable anyway)
- Not hosted in the US or any US-boot-licking country
- Not owned by anyone or any corporate entity living in the US
- Not operated by anyone or any entity within the US
- Allows connections only through VPNs or known non-US network sources
- 100% hands-off moderation, but automated computer-based is likely fine
- Does not predominantly cover US-based content

Good luck with anyone trying to do all the above. Any site operating currently that caters to adult consensual services, whether advertising or just pure communication, is now a target.
