Please keep in mind that these stats cover all orientations and lifestyles. For example, along with HIV, syphilis is currently found at higher levels in the Gay community than elsewhere (and is also more prevalent in the South). So when you see relatively high rates for syphilis infection listed under Anal Sex, well, surprise! surprise! It ain't Motel Kim spreading that around.
This is not to say that Safe Sex is a stupid waste of time. Just be aware how stats are manipulated by those with agendas, which are not always the agendas they claim to have. |

I don't think there is any agenda in these statistics, AsianSam, but you do make a valid point about the stats possibly covering all lifestyles--except for the ones that are specifically hetero--"Vaginal Sex-Man" and "Vaginal Sex-Woman." And it is the "Vaginal Sex-Man" statistics that should be most alarming for those of you who like to do bb vaginal sex with the girls. The rates for getting chlamydia, gonorrhea and HPV from an infected partner are rather scary. True, modern day medicine can cure all of these (at least the first two--I'm not sure about HPV), but do you really want to go through that, especially if you're married?
Also, I don't know why they don't list the transmission odds for every disease they list with each category of sex--probably they don't know but just list it as a possible risk. And this is Wikipedia, which is sometimes just a jumble of factoids with no clear organization. I guess their point is, if you're doing anything with anybody, you can get just about anything. |

Keep in mind that I'm certainly not advocating either BBFS or BB anal, as there are plenty of other nasties you can pick up along the way. I'm merely pointing out that the HIV virus itself is rather weak, and the chances of transmission are quite low if you take care of your body and are in normally good health. The biggest vectors for HIV infection have been due to people with weakened immune systems due to drug usage, other STD's, or a combination of both.

Does anyone really think he got HIV from fucking hot young female pro ball groupies? He got it from packing fudge. Hopefully he will one day man up and come out of the closet.

I know people with a background in immunology who have another theory - illegal use of steroids under less than sanitary conditions. Foreign matter inadvertently injected into the bloodstream can create apparently havoc and create all sorts of immune system reactions.
