SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman was sentenced yesterday to three years in state prison for pimping women out of luxury Irvine apartments operating as brothels.

Codefendant John Tzu-Lung Lan, 67, Chino Hills, is charged with two felony counts of conspiracy to commit pimping and pandering and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Aug. 11, 2017, in Department C-57, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Circumstances of the Case

Jian Zhen Zhu is a pimp who exploits women for financial gain. The victims are often required to turn over payment they receive for sex acts from sex purchasers to their pimp.

Between Jan. 26, 2014, and Jan. 2, 2014, Jian Zhen Zhu was convicted of and John Tzu-Lung Lan is accused of renting two luxury apartments on Kelvin Avenue in Irvine to use as brothels for a prostitution ring.

Jian Zhen Zhu posted advertisements of at least three women soliciting commercial sex and arranged for sex purchasers to meet with the victims.

On Jan. 2, 2014, members of the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF) located an advertisement soliciting prostitution and arranged a meeting at one of the Irvine apartments.

Jian Zhen Zhu walked the undercover detective into the apartment and was arrested at the scene.

Evidence of the locations being used as brothels, including used and new condoms in various locations, mouthwash, and over $1,600 cash were located.

During the investigation, OCHTTF found Zhu laundered at least $78,000 into various domestic and international bank accounts through cash deposits of money derived from pimping.

Members of the OCHTTF and the Orange County District Attorney’s (OCDA) Office work proactively to protect women and minors from falling victim to commercial sexual exploitation.

This case was investigated by OCHTTF, a partnership between Anaheim Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Costa Mesa Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, IPD, Newport Beach Police Department, OCDA, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Ana Police Department, and community and non-profit partners.

Deputy District Attorney Daniel Varon of the HEAT Unit is prosecuting this case.

Again, we see b.s criminal charges based on consenting adults deciding to work as escorts. Then they get busted, and the cops turn the screws onto the working girls so they can "roll" on the mms. This Orange County Human Trafficking Task force is totally out of control. They are complete lunatics.

The only way to push back against these psychotic cops and prosecutors is Jury Nullification.

If you are ever called in for Jury Duty, kiss ass to the cops, act like you are pro-police. Get onto the jury (keep your mouth SHUT). Then, when the trial is over and it's time for the verdict, say NOT GUILTY on all counts.

I will try to get on a jury panel the next time I get a summons. If it's a prostitution case or drug case, I will practice my right as a juror and vote not guilty.

Of course, this particular case was plea bargained, since the mms was facing DECADES in prison, just for running an aamp. So she decided on a few years of state prison instead.

The pimping law was enacted to fight against real human trafficking and gorilla pimps who turn out young underage girls. The pimping law should NOT be used to put people such as this woman into prison.

It's tough to know when some of these bookers actually cross the line and start controlling the girls and taking most of the money etc. I'd love to see more jury trials on these cases as I think in many cases the charges are bs

I know some bookers/agents that take a lot of the girls' money. for example, if the girl gets booked for a half hour appointment for 120 for FS the agent/booker takes right off the top 50 of her 120. the girl also pays for her own hotel/motel room costs and food plus she has to cover all other expenses for whatever personal supplies and female products that she needs and uses for every appointment in the room. if there is a separate phone operator that is taking the calls/texts and setting up her appointments the phone operator woman that you talk/text to will also get a flat fee per paid appointment taken from the girls' 120.

This is part of the same case and Lan, 67, may be the real "boss" of the operation. Jian Zhen Zhu could have been just the local manager and may be testifying if Lan goes to trial.

It would be interesting to know if the "girls" involved in this case were trafficked or just making a lot more money than they ever could have without education and/or job training.

I always say that the girl should drive(or Uber) herself to work and have her own independent living arrangement otherwise there is too much control. In this situation it sounds like a shitty situation for the girl but if she voluntarily shows up without coercion than thats her problem just like in the real world there are crappy employers in every industry.

I agree. Somewhere within a 15 mile radius of Downtown LA is ideal. LAPD and local offices have their hands tied up doing a ton of other shit they don't care about something minute as parlors.

Irvine and residential areas of the like have to demonize prostitution as the "WORST THING EVER" due to crime rates being relatively low around the city.

LAPD has a large vice department that does shut down AMPs. The smartest AMP owners know the following secret: setup shop in a city that doesn't have its own police dept and contracts out to the Sherrif's dept. A perfect example of this is West Hollywood. I know of several AMPs there that have been open for 20+ years and I've never heard of one getting raided.
