Default SVPD Reverse Sting

Reverse Prostitution Sting Results in Seven Arrests

On May 13, 2016, members of the Simi Valley Police Department Special Operations Unit conducted a “reverse prostitution sting” operation. This operation involved the placing of a fictitious on-line ad offering “adult services” and providing a phone number for these services. Numerous male callers contacted the number, spoke with the female undercover officer and made detailed arrangements to meet at a set location at a designated time. Once the individuals arrived at the location, the subjects were taken into custody by an arrest team. All subjects were booked at the Ventura County Main Jail for 647(b) P.C. /Solicitation of a prostitute.

The following subjects were arrested during the operation:

Name: Age: City of Residence: Charges

Cristobal Coetoaguirre, 42, Simi Valley, 647(b) PC
Alex Rosales, 35, North Hollywood, 647(b) PC
Gabriel Aviles, 32, Simi Valley, 647(b) PC
Michael Herr, 48, Simi Valley, 647(b) PC
Amit Somani, 32, Simi Valley, 647(b) PC
Roy Sotelom, 47, Moorpark, 647(b) PC
Stephen Ivanoff, 52, Thousand Oaks, 647(b) PC

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind members of the community that solicitation of a prostitute is illegal. Often times, the women involved in prostitution are victims themselves and may be conducting the work under duress and not of their own free will. Subjects who solicit acts of prostitution may be helping to further the acts being committed against these women. The Simi Valley Police Department will continue its work toward the reduction of human trafficking, the exploitation of women and prostitution through operations similar to these.

They just arrested them willy-nilly, before they even paid?
And it's galling that they justify this mis-use of law enforcement by stating the popular meme that the girls are "victims conducting the work under duress." I would like to see some real research on this--cops seem to be following the Fusion TV propaganda that 95% of the working girls are not doing it willingly.
Remember guys, when making contact, always ask if the girl has a pimp. Make her state clearly that she is willingly, on her own initiative, offering her services. If the worst happens, this may help in court.

The only pics were probably just the usual fake Backpage pics. I doubt they had time to whip out their cell phones before they were body-slammed by half a dozen overweight, skinhead, mustachioed, kevlar-clad "commandos." Just as well. "Officer Safety" would have thought it was a gun and unloaded a full magazine on them.

I respectfully disagree. Chances are, if you're in any danger of being arrested, it's because the girl is a cop. Asking about pimps will demonstrate your awareness of the what kind of scenario you were in and will reinforce the position that you intended to commit a crime.

Best to let her start the massage. No cop is going to actually give you one. If she wants to negotiate everything upfront, that's a red flag.

Just meeting her in response to an offer of sexual services I think is demonstration enough that you are aware of the "kind of scenario" you have gotten yourself involved with.
According to the report (which could be misleading) the police didn't wait for anything to take place, but just busted the guys as soon as they showed up. And do you find generally that an independent will start a massage without asking for money up front? Where I live, you wouldn't get far with "Massage me first, we'll negotiate later."

For sure the girl was probably very explicit over the phone such as : "I will fuck your brains out for $100 be here at 4pm." The guy shows up at 4pm with $100 in his pocket. Case closed. Its the same thing that happens in an MP sting, the girl immediately makes the solicitation once you get in the room. " I will give you a blow job for $60." Do you want a blowjob? No what would you like and you tell her and she asks for money and then they arrest you.

Also expect an unknown working girl to do an LE check when you first step in the room and be ready to give your own also. I think they teach the women undercover to maintain her distance and not get in the grasp of the customer.

Lastly look for unmarked crown vics in the parking lot and perhaps do a drive through first before parking.

If a provider with excellent English describes the services and fees in detail, be very concerned.

They didn't say where they placed the ads. Backpage??

I guess it depends on the ad and the phone conversation. I was thinking more of a "massage" scenario, not one where the ad is for "escort" service. For massage with a new girl, if the fee asked for is 60 or 80, then I'll wait until the massage is underway before I push for more. If it's 120, 140, etc., then I already know what's in store. No need to say anything even after we've started. She knows what to do. These are my assumptions, and they have worked so far.

That said, when I call, I usually just say I saw the ad, and ask if she is available. Then I'll ask where she is and how much. I don't bring up sex on the phone, and if she does, I'm done. Same if she's at a motel. Too risky. Or if she asks me to bring her something, like a soda, condoms, or whatever. That's another cop trick. If you show up with what she asked you to bring her, it's hard to say it wasn't you who called. It's also called "an act of furtherance."

If the cops bust you as soon as you walk through the door, the damage is already done, but it's best they have as little info about your intentions as possible up to that point (and don't give them any more after that)! If, however, she starts in with "what do you want to do, baby?" etc., when you walk in the door, before or after you give her the money (and before her clothes are off), that's a bad sign. Maybe that's when you should whip out a Bible ask if she knows about Jesus...
