The Giuliani interview on Fox News was the first time a lawyer for the president had acknowledged that Trump had reimbursed Mr. Cohen for the payments to Ms. Clifford, whose stage name is Stormy Daniels.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said that he did not know about the payment, referring questions to Cohen.
