Agreed. But just because he was wrong, doesn't mean the cops didn't take someone who was fine with a 19 y.o., got him all worked up to have sex with her, and then ambushed him with a difference of just one year below the legal age of consent.
That's right, ONE YEAR. The legal age of consent is 16 in Washington state, which means that could technically be a difference of just one day (or even an hour), since your age doesn't change until one minute past midnight on your birthday. 15 one day, 16 the next. It would be like telling someone the girl was 17 in California.
Still wrong, but might not seem like much of a difference to someone who has already been hooked by the conversation and pics up to that point, which is why they chose 15 instead of 8 or 12. They weren't after someone who was already looking for jail bait, otherwise they would have stated that illegal age from the get-go. No, they knew what they were doing, and they clearly manipulated this guy.
He was wrong, no two ways about it. I'm not excusing him. He should have bailed when they said 15. But the cops were obviously trying to set someone up with a bait and switch tactic, not catch a bona fide predator.
